Health Check

Want to know how well your liver, kidneys and other vital organs are functioning? Our Health Checks are the ideal way to make sure your body is in the best possible condition.

About the Health Check

Taking care of your body isn’t always as easy as eating the right things and exercising. And at a time like this, many of us are more conscious of our health than ever before. But unless you’re actively feeling unwell, you probably aren’t going to visit your GP for a ‘just in case’ check-up.

That’s why Superdrug’s Health Check could be the ideal solution.

Our health assessment uses common health markers to work out how well your body is functioning, including liver function tests and cholesterol tests. Rather than visiting your GP, you can book a convenient appointment at Superdrug’s Health Clinics. You’ll gain valuable insight into your health with just a simple blood test, as well as trusted advice from a medical expert.

Frequently Asked Question

What is a health assessment?

A health assessment is a general analysis of your physical wellbeing. Using a simple blood test and health questionnaire, our nurses and doctors will help you discover more about what’s going on inside your body. And once you’ve got a better picture of your health and any potential problems, you can make adjustments to your lifestyle or book an appointment with your GP to discuss your unique health issues in more detail.

You’ll need to book an appointment at one of our stores. You can find your nearest clinic and book an appointment online.

Why is a health assessment a good idea?

Taking your health into your own hands is a lot like your car’s annual MOT. Even if the vehicle is running perfectly, it’s still sensible to give it a good check to make sure there aren’t any hidden problems. That’s why our Health Checks are so helpful, as spotting new or potential problems early is the best way to keep yourself well.

Many of us also put up with feeling less than our best for a number of reasons and checking your bloods could give you an insight as to why this may be. Perhaps you’re struggling to fit an appointment with a GP into your busy schedule, or don’t want to take up their time for something as seemingly minor as tiredness or lack of energy. A Health check is a convenient and easy way to take your health into your own hands.

Your bloods will be analysed against 44 health markers for common problems, including iron, folate and B12 deficiencies, serum lipids and triglycerides and markers of inflammation, so you can find out how to improve your overall health and wellbeing.

What can I expect to happen?

When you arrive at our clinic, please make sure you’re following government guidelines by wearing a face covering. Your nurse will also be wearing a face covering, so please ask if you’re struggling to understand them or need any information repeated.

During your Health Check, you’ll be asked to fill out a medical questionnaire to give us a better idea of your general health. The main part of your Health Check will be a simple venous blood test (where blood is drawn from a vein in your arm using a needle). This should only take a minute or two to complete.

Do I need to prepare?

Ideally you will fast for 10 hours before the test, so maybe consider booking a morning test, if this isn’t possible don’t worry but please let the nurse know so we can interpret your results correctly. It’s also a good idea to wrap up warm, as being cold can sometimes make it harder to draw your blood as well as being hydrated.

If blood tests make you anxious, let your nurse know at the start of your appointment. They will do their best to make the experience as stress-free as possible.

What you’ll be tested for

Your blood will be analysed against 44 common health markers, checking your:

  • Liver health
  • Cholesterol status
  • Kidney health
  • Blood sugar levels (for diabetes)
  • Iron levels
  • Vitamins, including B12, D and folate
  • Full blood count
  • Inflammation

You can find out more about what these markers tell us about your health in this article: “Everything you need to know about the Superdrug Health Check”. Essentially, though, the Health Check will make sure key organs like your liver and kidneys are working as they should and uncover any deficiencies or precursors to illness that are impacting your health.

How do I get my results?

You can check your results by logging into your Melio Health account. We’ll include a detailed breakdown of what your results mean, as well as relevant medical advice from experienced doctors. You’ll usually be able to access this information within five working days meaning you can act on your results and start improving your health quickly.

Diagnostics are undertaken by our partner, Melio Health. During the consultation, your nurse will register you for a Melio Health patient account and you will receive your results through this portal.

You will need to consent to the nurse setting up a Melio Health account for you and your personal data being entered on the Melio patient portal; their terms and conditions can be found Melio Health Terms of Use.

Superdrug blood tests are available for patients aged 16 years and older.
