Rabies is a virus spread by animal bites or scratches which, if not vaccinated against, can cause severe health problems. It is also important to be vaccinated against rabies in certain occupations, where you may be at risk of contracting the disease.
A blood sample will be taken by one of our trained Nurses via a venous blood draw. This means that we will collect a small sample of blood from one of your veins. During the consultation the nurse will check your photo ID to verify the blood sample.
The sample is sent to a UKAS registered medical lab for testing. Your results will be analysed by Doctors at Melio health, who will provide you your results via the Melio Health platform. To find out more about Melio Health click here
You will need to consent to the nurse setting up a Melio Health account for you and your personal data being entered on the Melio patient portal; their terms and conditions can be found Melio Health Terms of Use.

How it Works
Frequently Asked Question
Do I need to bring photographic ID to the nurse appointment?
You will need to bring a photo ID to your appointment. If you do not present ID during your appointment you can continue to have the test, but we will not be able to verify your test should antibody status verification be required. If you arrive at your appointment without acceptable ID and wish to be able to verify your test, we can reschedule your appointment but there will be a charge of £30.
Accepted ID includes current passport, current UK or EEA photocard driving license, EEA member state identity card or a national identity card bearing a photograph. Please note that only originals can be accepted for verification
How is the blood sample sent to the lab?
Your sample will be transported to the lab via a courier network supplied by Melio Health or via Royal Mail post.
Please be aware that our partner lab may not be able to generate a result from every test due to a variety of factors, this may include haemolysis of the sample. In these circumstances we would do our best to offer a replacement test and nurse appointment that suits you
How long will it take to receive my results
You should receive an SMS when your result is ready, which is usually within 15 working days after the blood draw. You can then log in to your Melio account to review your result and the interpretation of your result by a registered GMC doctor.
