Frequently Asked Question
About the Nutritional Screening test
Plant based and restricted diets are growing in popularity as people find health, environmental and ethical benefits to the lifestyle choice. The Vegan society suggest that 7.2 million adults in the UK currently follow a plant based diet.
However, there are valuable nutrients found in animal products. This test looks at key nutrients and can be used to ensure that the diet is delivering everything you need.
This test looks at key vitamins and minerals that are essential for many important body functions, our doctors will be able to offer you advice based on your nutritional screen to ensure your diet includes everything you need and to help you plan how you can increase your intake if necessary.
What can I expect to happen?
When you attend your appointment the nurse will ask you some basic medical questions to ensure you are well enough for the blood test. Your screen will consist of a blood sample, usually from your arm.
Do I need to prepare?
This is a fasting test, we do recommended that you do not eat or drink (other than water – water is fine, please keep hydrated!) for 10 hours before the test. If this is not possible please let the nurse know and your results can be interpreted accordingly.
We do suggest keeping your arm warm, as being cold can sometimes make it harder to draw your blood.
If blood tests make you anxious, let your nurse know at the start of your appointment. They will do their best to make the experience as stress-free as possible.
