Postnatal Blood Test

This test checks the markers most commonly affected by pregnancy and birth, so you can spot deficiencies and support your recovery.

Why would you benefit from a Postnatal test?

Low iron stores, vitamin D deficiency, and postpartum thyroid changes can all result after childbirth. They can contribute to symptoms such as fatigue, mood changes, and reduced energy levels.

If you’re breastfeeding, nutrients including vitamin D, vitamin B12, and folate are transferred through breast milk. Maintaining adequate levels can help support both your own nutritional status and your baby’s ongoing development.

The test also includes a check for anaemia, signs of infection, and other factors that may be affecting your recovery and overall wellbeing.

Together, these markers provide a comprehensive picture of your postnatal health, helping identify areas where additional support may be beneficial.

What biomarkers are we looking at?

  • Vitamin D
  • Ferritin (iron stores)
  • Full blood count
  • Thyroid-stimulating hormone
  • Free thyroxine
  • Folate (Vitamin B9)
  • Active Vitamin B12
  • High-sensitivity CRP
