What does the service involve?

The Superdrug COVID-19 Swab Testing Service is an RT-PCR test, which is used to confirm a negative infection of COVID-19. This may be used for proof of fitness to fly or work, or to give you confidence to meet with family and friends whilst following local guidelines.

This is not a Test to Release for International Travel. Follow this link for alternative providers of this service.

This service is only available in selected  Nurse Clinics.

Superdrug Health Clinics are listed as a government approved service provider for the COVID-19 PCR Swab Test Service.

For a PCR test at home, please click here.

A swab is taken from the back of the throat and the inside of the nose, and then tested at our lab partners for evidence of COVID-19 infection.

If the result is negative, a certificate will be issued to confirm this.

This service is not suitable for anyone with COVID-19 symptoms, or that has been in contact with or living with someone suspected of having COVID-19 within 14 days. Please stay at home and follow latest government guidance on how to test and self-isolate, cancel your appointment and do not attend store.

If you think you may have COVID-19 you can get a FREE NHS test here.

Who performs the Service?

A Superdrug nurse will take the sample within a Superdrug Health Clinic. The samples are then sent to Unilabs Limited, a UKAS accredited lab who will analyse the samples.

Diagnostics are undertaken by our partner, Melio Health. During the consultation, your nurse will register you for a Melio Health patient account and you will receive your results through this portal.

You will need to consent to the nurse setting up a Melio Health account for you and your personal data being entered on the Melio patient portal; their terms and conditions can be found Melio Health Terms of Use.

The test is subject to lab capacity, availability of trained nurses and stock availability.

When should I book this test?

If you are flying abroad, please check the requirements of all your destinations and book within the required time frame. The requirement for pre-flight testing does vary by country and can be subject to change. Ensure you know how many days or hours before landing you are required to have had the test. It is your responsibility to ensure you meet your destination’s criteria.

Results are usually available on the next day, by 9pm for tests taken Monday-Friday before 3pm. If tests are booked outside of these hours your sample will be invalid and you will not receive a result.

This service is not available at weekends.

Who is this test suitable for?

This test is for non-symptomatic patients, looking to confirm a negative presence of the COVID-19 virus.

This service is available to patients aged 5 years and up. All patients will require photo ID (passport, current UK, or EEA photocard driving licence, EEA member state identity card or a national identity card bearing a photograph). Please note that only originals can be accepted for verification purposes.

How to get your results.

The nurse will register you with a Melio Health account during your appointment. You will be sent a link via email to confirm the account. You will receive a notification by SMS when your results are available, where you can log into Melio Health to access them.

Results will generally be available next day by 9pm if the test is taken Monday – Friday before 3pm but Superdrug gives no guarantee the results will be available at this time.

Results maybe returned as indeterminate, in such cases you will be offered another test (free of charge), but any lost flight costs will be the patients responsibility.
